Abbey Hill Academy Sixth Form
I would like to welcome you to the Abbey Hill Academy Sixth Form.
I am pleased to report that Ofsted has rated us as “outstanding” in the last three consecutive inspections, most recently in July 2015.
Our students experience a fabulous range of opportunities, supported through outstanding teaching & learning to prepare them for their futures.
“The outstanding curriculum supports students exceedingly well in developing their independence, self-confidence and self-reliance and provides them with skills they can use in their future employment.” (Ofsted July 2015)
Talented, committed and dedicated staff work extremely hard to ensure that the individual needs of each student are met.
The Sixth Form Building is purpose built and provides a superb learning environment where all students feel safe and happy.
We understand that progress means knowing more and remembering more. Understanding and retention of prior knowledge permits the successful learning of new content.
We believe that the Sixth Form’s Curriculum embeds ‘transferable’ knowledge by employing carefully ‘sequenced’ learning of knowledge and skills.
Our curriculum includes carefully chosen ‘components’ crucial for subsequent learning focusing on the Preparation for Adulthood Outcomes.
We believe that our curriculum is the progression model – progress is made through knowing more and remembering more.
We are not driven by data, the data we collect is a tool in which we measure the impact of the curriculum.
The appropriateness, and the success of a lesson activity depends on how it contributes towards achieving their curricular goals.
The Sixth Form's broad and balanced curriculum helps students to acquire knowledge, understanding and skills that will prepare them for life beyond formal education.
"We do not learn for school, but for life"
