World Book Day at Abbey Hill
6th March 2017
The theme for this year’s World Book Day at the Abby Hill Academy was “Harry Potter”
The Academy library was transformed in to different scenes from Harry Potter to give the students a virtual experience of what life in the world of Harry Potter might be like. Scenes include the Great Hall, the Platform of 9 ¾, the famous Fire place, Diagon Alley, we have our very own Hedwig and there’s even a game of Quidditch been played on the ceiling.
The students have enjoyed experiencing the virtual World of Harry Potter.
The students and staff got in the spirit of the Harry Potter theme by dressing up as characters from Harry Potter, we had our very own Dumbledore, Hagrid, Professor Snape, Dolores Umbridge,Madam Rolanda Hoochand lots of Gryffindor students to name but a few.
The students took part in Harry Potter workshops throughout the morning which included the visit of the Kirkleatham Owl Centre, the students had the opportunity to experience how to hold an owl, a snake and other animals, an experience which will stay with them for a long time. The students had the opportunity to play Quidditch in the Academy Gym.Weird and wonderful potions were created in workshops along with wand making and rune reading. The students also created art work which is to be displayed on our World Book Day Celebration board and some students got to make their very own Harry Potter character pencil pot.
The students had a great time and a great experience creating memories which they will remember for a long time to come.
It was a great learning experience for the students.
