Our Visit To The Oriental Museum
20th November 2014
Groups 6 & 7 visited the Oriental Museum in November to enrich their knowledge for their current GCSE project 'the art of other cultures.' The students thoroughly enjoyed the visit and got to make their own mini clay terracotta warriors and an ancient Japanese scroll. The curator took us through the various cultures and we even saw a real ‘mummy’ in the Egyptian gallery, and a tiny mummified kitten!! The students saw artefacts from Korea, China, Egypt, Japan, India and Indonesia amongst others and made some onsite sketches of their favourite objects from around the museum. They saw work from a local artist group and we all thought the life size terracotta warriors were very impressive. The visit has given the students a real depth of understanding before embarking on making their final pieces from their favourite culture.
