National Careers Week
7th March 2017
As part of a whole school drive, students at Westlands are looking into the choices that they have once they leave school. During each lesson they are encouraged to see how the subject they are learning is applied in the real-world of work by looking at how the skills developed can be used.
Maths is shown to be necessary in careers such as car mechanics and hairdressing, whilst Computing links to retail work, graphics design and photography. Our English students will look at the skills needed in catering and fashion design whilst our Hospitality students apply their abilities to office work and call-centre management! By creating links through real life examples, our students are able to grasp the importance of each subject in any future career choice.
These activities in lesson are backed up with displays, talks and demonstrations across the school throughout the week. It culminates on Friday with the results of the "Whose job is it anyway?" quiz where students can win prizes when they correctly guess which staff had which job!
