“Making Maths Fun” at Abbey Hill School!
16th June 2014
The event also provided us with an opportunity to promote the Leading Parent Partnership Award which Abbey Hill is currently working towards.
It was our Head of Mathematics, Mark Rhodes, and his colleague Mark Whitfield who came up with the idea as they wanted to highlight the importance of basic time and money skills and how these fundamental skills could be practiced together at home. Each parent received a fantastic goody bag which included a watch, radio alarm clock, play money, and maths resources which could be used at home. By attending, they were also entered into a raffle to win a brand new Google Nexus 7 tablet which was preloaded with Maths Apps.
All parents of year 11 students in the Stephenson and Walker buildings were invited by a letter home and a phone call. Transport to and from school was also provided. All of the parents who attended were very enthusiastic about the event and found the resources really useful. Comments from parents were really positive and all parents who attended felt that they now understood what level their child was working towards.
Based on the success of the event, we are hoping to host a similar session later in the year – watch this space!
