An Exciting day for Green Gates!
25th June 2015
Green Gates was finally able to celebrate their newly recognised status as a Primary Academy! It was a truly exciting event with special guests, speeches and even a few tears! Staff and children were proud to show off their achievements since becoming a recognised Primary Academy and invited family and carers to come and join the celebrations with an afternoon summer fair!
The day started at 10am when the school was buzzing with the arrival of VIP guests such as the Mayor, Elizabeth Horne, Colin Whittaker the chair of directors and of course Pudsey Bear himself. The children looked smart and listened proudly as they learned about the history and success of their school through the Chief Executive Officer's speech, Elizabeth Kipling. This was followed up by Colin Whittaker taking the podium and finally a long awaited speech from the Mayor, before he cut the official ribbons to announce the opening of the school!
One of the most moving speeches of the entire event was delivered by the School Minister, Ryan Foster, a year 6 pupil. Click Ryan's speech.docx. to read what Ryan had to say that brought tears to the eyes of staff.
It was at this point that Pudsey surprised everyone and entered the hall to cut the beautiful cake to share around for all to enjoy. It was a long day for Pudsey who wanted to stay all day to meet family members and carers and have a little sun bathe in the glorious sunshine.
The afternoon was a celebration for all the families and carers of children within the school. This was an opportunity to celebrate but also to thank everyone for all of their hard work and support over the last year. There was lots of fun stalls including a plant stall ran very professionally by Little Acorns, our KS1 class, a tombola, a home made lemonade stall (which I have to say was delicious!) a sweet stall and a games stall ran by our year 6 children. Altogether the fair made over £200 which is all going to the Friends of HSAT fund.
Guests did not leave empty handed either! Everyone left with a hand made thank you card and a beautiful Green Gates Primary Academy Mug. The day was a fantastic success with everyone enjoying themselves all of the time, whilst celebrating as a community over their recognition as a Primary Academy - something all staff and students are proud to be apart of.
