Abbey Hill at North Shore dance their way to success!
26th March 2018
Abbey Hill at North Shore students have been working with Gemma Thompson, professional dance teacher of Thornton’s Dance Academy in Middlesbrough each week. The dance project is funded by ‘We Can Dance’ charity in Darlington who pay for Gemma to come into school each week to work with our students. ‘We Can Dance’ have paid for dance shoes and t shirts for the students to wear in their lessons as well as funding their Dance exams.
Over the past few months the students have been studying for their Dance exams which included learning a range of exercises and a dance. The students have had the experience of visiting and dancing in a dance studio and were entered for their exams in March.
We are now awaiting the results of the dance exams and we are expecting some excellent grades and are looking forward to receiving our medals and certificates.
We are very grateful for the generosity of ‘We Can Dance’ and would like to say a huge thank you for their ongoing support.
Tin Arts Dance Project
Over the past few months we have been working with the students on North Shore on an exciting dance project funded by ‘Tin Arts Dance’. Every Tuesday our students have enjoyed sessions with professional dance teacher from ‘Urban Kaos’ and Yuvel Soria of Tin Arts Dance. The students have been working creatively with the North Shore students to create a performance. The students have been excited to perform their joint project to parents and carers at Billingham Forum Theatre and also to other schools at the Tees Valley Games at the Dolphin Centre in Darlington.
The performance is fantastic and the students have really enjoyed working with the mainstream and the dance teachers to perform.
We would like to say a huge thank you to the dance teachers Amy, Kelly and Yuvel for supporting us and to Cara and Martin from Tin Arts for facilitating and funding this excellent opportunity.
