Horizons Specialist Academy Trust consists of 8 Academies, Abbey Hill, Westlands, Green Gates, Hollis, Archway, Woodlands, The Meadows and Mo Mowlam. The academies serve a population in excess of 1000 students aged 5 to 18 with a broad range of learning difficulties.

Abbey Hill Academy & Sixth Form provides for approximately 360 young people and we are at the forefront of current developments in the education of young people with special needs. We specialise in meeting the needs of students aged 11 to 18 who have a full range of learning difficulties as well as other physical and social needs.

The academy is seeking to recruit a teacher of PE to cover a maternity leave. The post is to teach students aged 11-16 with a broad range of special educational needs. The successful candidate will need to have excellent subject knowledge and be able to deliver the PE curriculum to students with a wide range of ability levels. The post will involve teaching students working academically between the EYFS curriculum and Year 6 expectations.  The right candidate will need to be an enthusiastic and inspirational teacher, with high expectations of our children and themselves and have the ability, perseverance and resilience to be an outstanding practitioner. Experience of delivering rebound therapy would be a bonus, but training can be provided in this area.

As well as excellent curriculum knowledge, good communication and interpersonal skills, the successful candidate will have proven ability to work as part of a team of teachers and support staff. Previous experience of working with students with SEN would be desirable but not essential.
