Within Horizons Specialist Academy Trust’s Articles of Association, detail is provided with regard to the Company’s ('the  Trust’s') Object, which is restricted to the following:

“to advance for the public benefit education in the United Kingdom, in particular but without prejudice to the generality of the foregoing by establishing, maintaining, carrying on, managing and developing schools (“the mainstream Academies”) offering a broad and balanced curriculum or educational institutions which are principally concerned with providing full-time or part-time education for children of compulsory school age who, by reason of illness, exclusion from school or otherwise, may not for any period receive suitable education unless alternative provision is made for them (“the  alternative provision Academies”) or 16 to 19 Academies offering a curriculum appropriate to the needs of its students (“the 16 to 19 Academies”) or schools  specially organised to make special educational provision for pupils with Special Educational Needs (“the Special Academies”).”

In order to ensure the Trust is focussed on the Object and also that the Board of Directors is fulfilling its key functions of:

a.   Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;

b.   Holding the Chief Executive to account for the educational performance of the schools and its pupils; and

c.   Overseeing the financial performance of the schools and making sure the money is well spent.

the Board has a robust structure in place, the membership of which is reviewed at least annually.

Within the Board's Terms of Reference and Scheme of Delegation, detail is provided with regard to the the purpose of each committee and the Academy Councils, the frequency of meetings, membership and quorum, how meetings will be arranged and those functions that have been delegated by the Board.

The minutes of all meetings are presented to the Board of Directors to ensure the Board retains an overview and to add a further layer of challenge and support to the strategic management of the Trust.
