Providing infinite opportunities

Abbey Hill Academy

Abbey Hill Academy is a magical place where young people aged 11 to 16 who have learning difficulties and disabilities learn, grow, inspire and achieve.

Hello visitor,

It is with great pride that I welcome you to Abbey Hill Academy’s website. As Principal for the past two years I have seen the impact of recent changes and developments in the provision we offer our young people and their families and I hope as you browse the site you also get a flavour of the tremendous hard work and effort made by staff and students on a daily basis.

We are committed to fulfilling the Trust’s motto “To do more and to do it better” and for that reason we strive to have high expectations for all.

It is our aim that all students have access to an exciting, personalised curriculum that enables them to flourish academically and socially.

We want all our students to feel safe and secure during their time with us and for that reason we have a very robust, caring pastoral system in place. This is evidenced by the fact that 100% of students (when surveyed) said that there is an adult in school they can talk to if they have a problem.

We also strive to work closely with the families of our young people as evidenced by the Leading Parent Partnership Award and the recently established Parent Forum.

As an Academy we get very excited by new research and developments in innovative practices but we also acknowledge the need to have assurances that we what do is right for our staff and young people. Therefore, we actively seek out assurance from external professionals and awarding bodies such as:

  • Inclusion Quality Mark
  • Rights Respecting Schools
  • Investors in People
  • Anti-Bullying Quality Mark
  • National Autism Society Award (pending)

We understand the need for all our stakeholders to have input into developments and practices and therefore, review annually our Academy offer via student, staff and parent/carer surveys. We also hold a termly parent forum as well as weekly student council meetings. We want everyone to feel involved in their Academy.

To see for yourself…enjoy browsing our website or book to visit the Academy via our enquiries page.

Thank you for visiting.
